Monday, 12:40-1:20pm | Tuesday, 12:40-1:20pm
Wednesday, 12:40-2pm | Friday, 12:40-1:20pm
Students must extend and apply their literacy skills to math class and other curriculum areas. We appeal to their multiple intelligences, use manipulatives, expereintial inquiry learning and use a variety of cross curricular strategies to help students build their knowledge and show their learning in other subject areas.
THIS WEEK
Monday:
Picture Book to introduce symmetry and dance activity: “Seeing Symmetry ”
by Loreen Leedy (Author)
Geometry Vocabulary & Review: games & hands on activities
Tuesday:
Geometry Vocabulary & Review: games & hands on activities
Geometry Symmetry: hands on activities and games with manipulatives, and graphs
Wednesday and Friday:
Geometry Dance (2 days)
-
students explore symmetry and movement in space related to new vocabulary and math concepts through dance activities
-
Students discuss, revise, and write about their dances in relation to math and dance using literacy skills.
-
Videos of student performances will be posted on private Kidblog.
ASSESSMENT
Dance is incorproated into Geometry Math Unit to help teach and assess understanding of new concepts and vocabulary.
-
Anecdotal notes from Math activities and explanations throughout week
Performance based on c-created success criteria:
-
Self Assessment through interview or written reflection sheet with checklist
-
Peer Assessment using simple checklist
-
Teacher Assessment based on performance and conferencing
